# Step 03 | Scale Printed Fabric Swatches

Go to the PreQuilt Fabric Dashboard

<figure><img src="https://667278489-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FPUFswdysHBJDPIJC9xe0%2Fuploads%2FbewHJz2DoSILWxJ8qd76%2FScreenshot%202026-10-21%20at%202.15.03%E2%80%AFPM.png?alt=media&amp;token=6f4d60c0-b203-44a5-a893-26711167e91e" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## <mark style="color:$primary;">How to Scale Uploaded Fabric Swatches</mark>

After importing your printed fabric swatches into PreQuilt, you will need to edit them before you can start using them in your quilts.&#x20;

Follow these steps in this order.

1. Crop your digital fabric swatch.
2. Set width of your digital fabric swatch.

There are also optional information you can add to help keep your digital fabric stash organized.

* Enter general information about the printed fabric swatch.
* Tag your digital fabric swatch.

If you're importing an entire collection, you can also bulk edit up to 25 printed fabric swatches at once.

### <mark style="color:blue;">NOTE: Swatch Dimensions</mark>

We’ve noticed that some companies have standard dimensions for their digital fabric swatches and we’ve used that information to create a little cheat sheet for you as a starting point or best guess for the dimensions of your digital fabric swatch.\* All widths should be entered in inches.

<figure><img src="https://667278489-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FPUFswdysHBJDPIJC9xe0%2Fuploads%2F8YPBwAcIsLo8epXupOVA%2F04%20cheat%20sheet%20closed.png?alt=media&amp;token=621be6d4-e7ae-4129-9fa7-c6d184879e85" alt=""><figcaption><p><em>Collapsed swatch dimension suggestion sheet</em></p></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="https://667278489-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FPUFswdysHBJDPIJC9xe0%2Fuploads%2F6svxVf3AwFrflW1BrbqR%2F05%20cheat%20sheet%20open.png?alt=media&amp;token=5e9e0265-c79f-499f-aab2-99f112ae53fb" alt=""><figcaption><p><em>Expanded swatch dimension suggestion sheet</em></p></figcaption></figure>

Sometimes there are no dimensions for your digital fabric swatch and that can be frustrating. Our suggestion is to use your best guess (based on quilts you've seen that used that fabric) and put that guesstimate into the swatch width.

*\*Please use as a best guess, we cannot guarantee that your digital fabric swatch is actually using these dimensions.*

## <mark style="color:blue;">a | Prepare Printed Fabric Swatch for Use</mark>

{% hint style="danger" %}
This step is mandatory for all imported fabric swatches. Crop first and then set the width.
{% endhint %}

This step is **after** the swatch has been imported. If you need to know how to import fabric, visit [HERE](broken://pages/T1MeQlFqiYoQO7QPWHQC).

Once you have your digital fabric swatch uploaded to PreQuilt, it can’t be used until the width of the fabric swatch has been set. Without the width of your swatch, the application will not know how to scale it appropriately into your quilt components.

### <mark style="color:blue;">01 | Crop the fabric swatch</mark>

1. From the Fabric Dashboard, click on the <mark style="color:blue;">**Edit**</mark> button for the digital fabric swatch that you want to set the width for.

   <div align="left"><figure><img src="https://667278489-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FPUFswdysHBJDPIJC9xe0%2Fuploads%2FyzUaAi1JUoqThiP7XO2u%2FScreenshot%202026-09-23%20at%2012.37.49%E2%80%AFPM.png?alt=media&amp;token=4c3e2f64-de52-4675-bd0e-f702da1e49d2" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

2. In the popup window, you will see a **DRAG** button on each side of the digital fabric swatch. These can be used to crop the digital fabric swatch.&#x20;

   <div align="left"><figure><img src="https://667278489-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FPUFswdysHBJDPIJC9xe0%2Fuploads%2FIZkSbWZDp5zPmfp2ZGIc%2FScreenshot%202026-09-23%20at%2012.49.27%E2%80%AFPM.png?alt=media&amp;token=f8b14c1c-c317-49c2-970d-31590f93c535" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

3. <mark style="color:blue;">**Click and hold**</mark> onto the <mark style="color:blue;">**DRAG**</mark> button on the bottom of the digital fabric swatch. You should see a turquoise blue band along the bottom.

   <div align="left"><figure><img src="https://667278489-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FPUFswdysHBJDPIJC9xe0%2Fuploads%2FC0BNyjt1z1UXAvlaYLDT%2FScreenshot%202026-09-23%20at%2012.59.30%E2%80%AFPM.png?alt=media&amp;token=67ce21e7-4c62-4481-9517-384f150ec3c4" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

4. <mark style="color:blue;">**Move**</mark> the blue line from the bottom of the digital fabric swatch up until it is above the ruler. You’ll notice that the ruler will become more translucent and almost hidden.

   <div align="left"><figure><img src="https://667278489-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FPUFswdysHBJDPIJC9xe0%2Fuploads%2FO6WlLNr7tsUePxrmWlMp%2FScreenshot%202026-09-23%20at%201.02.22%E2%80%AFPM.png?alt=media&amp;token=06dfa4d5-d09f-4705-9ae7-b981bef097ff" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

### <mark style="color:$primary;">02 | Set the swatch width</mark>

1. <mark style="color:blue;">**Enter**</mark> the width or height (inches) of the digital fabric swatch in the top right box.

   1. In this example, we were lucky enough to have a ruler along the bottom edge of the swatch. I’ll use that dimension here.
   2. ***Note***: You only need to enter the width or the height. The internal calculator will figure out the missing dimension for us.

   <figure><img src="https://667278489-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FPUFswdysHBJDPIJC9xe0%2Fuploads%2FQ22yrSQqUsu6OLXqs3dy%2FScreenshot%202026-09-23%20at%201.07.50%E2%80%AFPM.png?alt=media&amp;token=12510bb6-6a05-4355-abbe-cab954426b28" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

2. Since the swatch was 12 inches wide, I've entered the number 12. The internal calculator has computed that the height is 10.96.

   <div align="left"><figure><img src="https://667278489-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FPUFswdysHBJDPIJC9xe0%2Fuploads%2FIuSTocjaUfbAZsiSgL7H%2FScreenshot%202026-09-23%20at%201.10.24%E2%80%AFPM.png?alt=media&amp;token=f586fcef-7fdf-4da4-bb84-ba700116f489" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

3. Click on the <mark style="color:blue;">**Save**</mark> button at the bottom.

   <figure><img src="https://667278489-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FPUFswdysHBJDPIJC9xe0%2Fuploads%2FVdJYmGcxVgjCbEvk8d8V%2FScreenshot%202026-09-23%20at%201.11.17%E2%80%AFPM.png?alt=media&amp;token=9d2edb1c-43df-42fe-a4ce-4b1a2bcc1379" alt=""><figcaption><p><em>The yellow box will turn to white once dimensions have been set.</em></p></figcaption></figure>
