# 07 Adding Borders

Our Ribbon Star quilt progress:

* [x] Select your quilt grid
* [x] Import or design your quilt block
* [x] Choose your quilt fabric colors
* [x] Add blocks to quilt grid
* [x] Finessing your quilt *(optional)*
* [x] Add sashing *(optional)*
* [ ] Add borders *(optional)*
* [ ] Add binding
* [ ] Using printed fabric swatches *(optional)*
* [ ] Download quilt map, blocks & swatches

After finishing the block portion of your quilt top, you might want to add a border to make it bigger or to frame your blocks. In this example, I'd like to add a 4" border around the entire quilt.

This can be quickly done in PreQuilt! You can keep repeating these steps to add up to 3 borders.

## <mark style="color:blue;">01 Adding a Border</mark>

1. Click on the <mark style="color:blue;">**BINDING/BORDER**</mark> tab on the left side control panel.

   <div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/ogR4CtNQpfpjUH1Yye8Q" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>
2. Click on the '<mark style="color:blue;">**Add Border**</mark>' button.

   <div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/4r9KvHCFgVWms50gQpdT" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>
3. A 2" border will automatically be added around the entire quilt. Change the border to <mark style="color:blue;">**4"**</mark> and <mark style="color:blue;">**choose**</mark> a Color Tag from the dropdown Fabric menu for the borders color.&#x20;

   <div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/VLMqMAh14xbf2DJCmyx0" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>
4. In this example, I'll keep it Color Tag A, which is also the background fabric.

## <mark style="color:blue;">02 Adding Additional Border(s)</mark>

1. Click on the <mark style="color:blue;">**BINDING/BORDER**</mark> tab on the left side control panel.

   <div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/vxUjk7RcC8gMOCTaemnM" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>
2. Click on the '<mark style="color:blue;">**Add Border**</mark>' button.

   <div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/VnPNpwI7RRtMHxXiAhMw" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>
3. Another 2" border will automatically be added to the outside of the entire quilt. Change the <mark style="color:blue;">**width**</mark> and <mark style="color:blue;">**Color Tag**</mark> to your desired values.&#x20;

   * In this example, I've changed the Color Tag to Color Tag D.

   <div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/gVrBqVwweRh7vg2Ql3Hi" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>
4. Now we have 2 borders around our quilt.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.prequilt.com/prequilt-101/starter-quilts/first-prequilt-quilt/07-adding-borders.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
