Create Alternate Quilt Blocks

Free Ruby Star Sampler Feature

Create Alternate Versions of the RSS Blocks

You will notice that some of the quilt blocks are used more than once, but they are using different fabrics. We call these alternate blocks and you can create them by cloning (copying) the original block and editing the fabrics that are used.

This one can be a little confusing the first time, but once you get the hang of it, you can have a lot of fun creating lots of fun quilts made up of different versions of the same blocks.

Written Help Guide

1

While in any of the Ruby Star Samplers, click on the toggle to change from Color Mode to Design Mode. It's at the very top of the left hand control panel.

2

Click on the Blocks tab to get it to expand and show all the blocks being used in the quilt.

  • You can also see how many times each of the blocks are being used in the quilt.

  • In this example, we have 10 of each Tipsy Star Block (blue & pink).

3

Click on the Three Dots button ()next to the block we want to create an alternate version for. Then click on Clone.

4

You'll see that a new, identical clone (copy) of the blue Tipsy Star block has been created and added to the Blocks tab.

5

Click on the Edit block button for our newly cloned block.

6

A popup window of the Block Editor will open.

7

Similar to the quilt, click on the image of the fabric that you'd like to use. The cursor will turn into a square of that fabric.

8

Then click on the part of the block where you'd like to use the fabric. You will see that fabric has now been updated to use your new fabric.

9

Click on the Save to Quilt button (in the top right corner) to save the changes and exit back to the quilt design wall.

10

Click on the block cell on the quilt where you want the new block to be (instead of whatever is currently being used).

11

Click the Add to Quilt button for the block we want to use.

12

You will now see the new quilt block has replaced the old quilt block.

13

You can see that the change was only made to that one block, not all the other 9 versions of the original quilt block.
